What Is Invisalign?
- Completely invisible – Invisalign aligners cannot be seen while you are wearing them! Friends, family members and co-workers may never even know you are wearing braces, unless of course you tell them!
- Comfortable to wear – The aligners are made from a special plastic that has smooth, rounded edges so they won’t irritate your mouth and tissues like traditional braces often can.
- Customized just for you – Your Invisalign aligners are customized to fit your mouth. Dr. Sacks uses advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to replicate an exact impression of your mouth and teeth, then he customizes each aligner so that it fits your mouth, and over time moves your teeth into the proper position.
- Removable – Unlike traditional metal braces, you can remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush your teeth, floss and for special occasions. There’s no need to change your lifestyle with Invisalign!
- Effective – You will begin to notice a significant difference even before your treatment is complete! Most treatments are complete within one year; however this can vary from patient to patient.
What Does Invisalign Do?
How Does Invisalign Work?
If Invisalign is right for you a set of X-rays and teeth impressions will be the first step of the process. The X-rays and impressions will be used to create a 3D computer projection of how your teeth could be adjusted with the help of aligners. This helps determine the treatment plan and number of custom-made aligners that will be needed in order to achieve the desired look. Although everyone will have a different treatment plan and sets of aligners, a person will typically have a set of 20 to 30 aligners for both the upper and lower teeth. A few sets of trays will be given at a time to be worn for about two weeks each. Orthodontic visits will also vary, but they should be around every four to six weeks to ensure the Invisalign treatment plan is going well and to pick up a new set of trays. Invisalign is most successful when the aligners are worn at all times except during eating, brushing, and flossing.
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
The Invisalign treatment duration will differ from person to person depending on their particular case. Most adult cases are corrected within a year while teenagers might need a longer treatment of about 12 to 16 months. Invisalign trays should be worn for 20-22 hours a day and should only be removed during eating, brushing, or flossing. The more faithfully you follow the treatment plan, the more effective your treatment will be within the given time period.
Is Invisalign Braces?
Invisalign are clear plastic aligners designed to help shift your teeth into the proper position. They are a type of orthodontic treatment that helps straighten teeth without the use of metal wire, bracket, and brace appliances. They fit perfectly over teeth and are barely visible as opposed to traditional metal braces.
What Does Invisalign Look Like?
Invisalign clear braces are just that, clear aligners. They are less noticeable than traditional metal braces but will straighten your teeth nonetheless. Invisalign are clear sets of custom-fitted removable trays made with a pliable material that fits perfectly snug to your teeth. Invisalign aligners apply pressure to make slight adjustments to your teeth until the desired outcome is reached. Many refer to Invisalign as invisible braces because they are close to invisible to others.
Celebrities With Invisalign?
Invisalign is a barely visible and convenient way to straighten teeth, this makes it the perfect option for those in the public eye. Many celebrities have chosen Invisalign as their preferred method to achieve a straighter smile as opposed to traditional metal brackets and wires. Celebrities like Serena Wiliams, Justin Beiber, Oprah Winfrey, and many more have opted for this option. Clear aligners allowed them to make public appearances without affecting their image. Although Invisalign isn’t just for the stars, anyone can benefit from this less invasive method to achieve that perfect smile.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost?
Invisalign treatment is an alternative method to the traditional metal bracket and wire braces used to straighten teeth. Although, the cost of this treatment can vary by case it is often similar to that of metal braces. Treatment costs can range from $3,000-7,000 depending on the complexity of the patient’s case. Costs can also fluctuate depending on insurance coverage but can become more affordable by choosing to pay with tax-free dollars from an FSA or HSA or arranging a monthly payment plan.
Is Invisalign Covered By Insurance?
It is always best to check with your insurance provider but most dental insurance plans cover Invisalign treatment the same way they cover braces. Insurance plans may pay for a certain percentage of your Invisalign treatment or it may pay a fixed dollar amount. Orthodontic treatment is sometimes covered by health, rather than dental insurance, if this is not the case some providers will offer the option to purchase orthodontic coverage separately. Before booking a consultation ask your doctor, dentist, or orthodontist which insurance plans they accept, they can also call your insurance provider to check your coverage.
Can Invisalign Fix Overbite?
An overbite is when your upper teeth protrude over the lower teeth. While most people have at least a little bit of an overbite, some may have one that protrudes over the lower teeth by a proportion between 30-50% and will require treatment to avoid dental issues in the future. As long the overbite isn’t overly severe, Invisalign can customize a treatment plan that will shift the teeth, jawline or both, to fix an overbite as opposed to more invasive treatments like surgery or teeth removal.
What Can You Eat With Invisalign?
In general Invisalign trays should be worn 20-22 hours a day and should only be removed when eating, flossing, and brushing. It is important to follow the treatment plan given by an orthodontist to ensure the success of Invisalign treatment and avoid eating any foods when the aligners are on. Some of the best foods to eat during the plan are dairy items and fruits and vegetables. The calcium and protein in dairy support the health of teeth while raising the pH level of the mouth to reduce the number of bacteria linked to cavities. Fruits and veggies help hydrate the mouth while increasing the production of saliva, this is essential due to its natural mouth cleaning abilities. Remember to make sure to brush your teeth after eating and before wearing the Invisalign tray to prevent bacteria from building on the surface of the trays that may cause infection and damage.
What Can You Drink With Invisalign?
To put it simply, you can drink whatever you want with Invisalign only when you’re not wearing the aligners. Unfortunately, many drinks can negatively impact the effectiveness of this treatment and should be avoided when the aligners are on. Drinking sugary or acidic drinks when the aligners are on or put on immediately after without rinsing the mouth can lead to cavities or erosion of your tooth enamel. Hot beverages can cause the aligners to warp which can compromise your results since the success of the treatment depends on the fit of the aligners. Coffee, red wine, or tea can stain the trays which ultimately defeats the purpose of opting for an invisible treatment. For best results, try drinking only cold water when wearing the aligners, avoid the temptation to sip a drink slowly over the course of several hours, and don’t skimp on your oral hygiene, especially when putting your aligners back in.
Can You Smoke With Invisalign?
Luckily, one of the major benefits of Invisalign is that the aligner trays are removable. Since the aligners should be taken off during eating or drinking anything else that isn’t water, this is the best time to squeeze in a short smoke break. Remember to brush your teeth before putting the aligners back in. To ensure the success of Invisalign treatment make sure that you are not exceeding the 2 hour removal time. If you are a heavy smoker and must smoke outside the removal times then leave them in, just know that the smoke will eventually stain the aligners.
How To Clean Invisalign?
There are four ways to clean Invisalign clear aligners. The first method is the most popular, which includes gently brushing the aligners with cold or warm soapy water. After brushing your teeth, gently brush the inside of the liners to remove any residual residues that might be in the aligners this method ensures that both your mouth and the aligners are clean for the remainder of the treatment. The second step includes soaking the aligners in a cleaning crystal or tablet solution for about 3-5 minutes. Once this time is up, rinse the aligners and wear them as normal. The third method involves a product called ever smile which is a foam that is inserted into the aligner. Let this foam sit for about 3-5 min, rinse the aligners before wearing. The last method involves an ultrasonic cleaner appliance that cleanses the aligners with the touch of a button.
What Are Invisalign Cleaning Crystals?
Invisalign cleaning crystals are an alternative method for cleaning your Invisalign aligners. They can be used on a regular basis to remove any plaque that starts to collect on your aligners and if used on a regular basis it kills the bacteria that can lead to gingivitis and bad breath. The crystals are easy to use, all you have to do is dissolve them into a cleaning tub and soak the aligners for 15 min. Once the time is up rinse the aligners with lukewarm water and gently scrub the liners from both sides with a wet toothbrush. Lastly, thoroughly rinse the aligner one last time and you’re done.
Is There A Difference Between Invisilines & Invisaliners?
Invisalign treatment is a clear alternative to traditional metal braces. They are a series of custom-made aligners made from the impression of a patient’s teeth. This impression helps create a clear aligner that is perfectly fitted and unique to each patient with the purpose to create a straight and healthy smile. Invisaliner is not a widely used term within the industry but is often used by the general public when referring to clear aligner braces. Invisaligner stems from the term “Invisalign” which is a trademark of Align Technology, Inc. who is engaged in the design, manufacture, and marketing of Invisalign® systems.
